Truck Driver

Summary

Drive/operate ten (10) yard dump truck with trailer and other County equipment to facilitate the construction, repair, rebuilding and all related maintenance of roadways.

• Operation of heavy dump trucks, pup trailers, low-boys, tilt trailers and tankers for repair, maintenance and construction of roadways.
• Perform preventative maintenance and servicing of assigned equipment to ensure safe, operational status.
• Ensure a safe work environment for maintenance crews and the general public.

• Ability to service and perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
• Ability to recognize hazards and safety problems.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations and requirements related to the trucking industry to ensure safety of employees and the general public.
• Knowledge of modern practices, methods and materials used in maintenance, repair and construction of roadways.
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees.
• Ability to communicate, understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
• Ability safely drive truck/trailer combinations on narrow roadways, with no shoulders in all traffic situations.
• Ability to successfully complete required training courses.

• Valid Washington State Combination Drivers License.
• Flagger Certification.
• State Pesticide License (Possible requirement).
• Experience related to the trucking and hauling industry.

• Employees are provided basic coverage of $24,000.
• Employees have the opportunity to purchase additional insurance for both the employee and eligible dependents.

Island County employees participate in a pension plan through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (additional 457(b) deferred‑compensation plans are also available).

Island County pays 100% of the premium for emergency air transport coverage.
