General Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Specialized Transportation Director, the Specialized Transportation Van Driver will transport students with disabilities on “to and from school” routes. Students are transported in vans or vehicles that are rated to transport 10 or fewer passengers.
Salary
The full hourly range is $24.64 - $28.36. Offers are made at the entry level of the range.
Assignment
This position is part‑time, working 20‑25 hours per week on a school‑year schedule with no work during school breaks (winter, spring, summer). We are primarily recruiting for work in Klickitat County; vehicles are located in White Salmon and Goldendale, WA.
Essential Functions
- Operate the ESD 112 vehicle in accordance with Washington state laws and ESD policies.
- Drive the vehicle on scheduled routes and approved activities.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, school staff, peers, and supervisors.
- Inspect, clean, and request maintenance for the vehicle and related equipment.
- Report unsafe acts or conditions requiring attention of others.
- Contribute to the classroom instructional team including teachers and related service staff.
Other Functions
- Supervise and maintain control of students.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service programs, workshops, and similar training or program events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- 21 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to complete state‑required driver training and acquire/maintain a valid first aid and CPR card.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students with disabilities or unique needs.
- Experience transporting students.
- Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities.
Working Conditions
- Operate vehicle under a variety of road conditions.
- Perform physical interventions necessary to restrain students in compliance with Washington State WACs and emergency response protocol.
- Exposure to communicable diseases found in children and adolescents.
- Students may use challenging or offensive verbalizations toward staff and other students with potential for escalation to physical aggression.
- Sit, stand, stoop to attend to student needs and provide instruction; strength and agility for emergency response protocols.
- Work cooperatively in a day treatment program setting.
Employment Requirements
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Successful completion of Washington school bus driver training.
