JOB SUMMARY

Provide leadership for the Transportation Department and ensure that the students are transported efficiently and safely to and from school. Operate a school bus on an assigned bus route.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Recognize and focus on implementation of best transportation practices
  • Perform supervisory functions related to assigned personnel including, but not limited to, applicant screening and hiring processes, staff assignment supervision, staff training, staff evaluation, labor relations, and related supervisory duties
  • Direct the district’s vehicle maintenance and transportation operations in order to implement safe, efficient, and effective support service to the education program facilities
  • Demonstrate skills at budgeting and financial matters, including budget proposals and documentation, as well as staffing allocations and related project planning activities
  • Implement safety programs for reduction of accidents. Respond to emergency situations involving transportation operations
  • Promote a collaborative working environment
  • Manage bus route system
  • Check roads in winter for snow and ice conditions. Check with superintendent for school closure or early release
  • Responsible for transportation OSPI reporting (i.e. STARS)
  • Attend Regional and/or State transportation meetings
  • Drive a district bus route
  • Other duties as assigned
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of specific transportation leadership training courses or programs (such as those offered through the Washington Association of Pupil Transportation)
  • Certified Washington State driver trainer
  • Possesses strong communication skills and ability to effectively process conflict situations
  • Demonstrates a high level of organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Washington State Driver’s License;
    Class B, CDL with appropriate endorsements
  • Possess a valid Washington State School Bus Driver’s Certificate
  • First aid qualified (eight-hour Red Cross or equivalent)
  • Successfully meeting all requirements of chapter 180-20 (drug, disclosure, fingerprinting)
  • Excellent driving record
  • Five-year complete school bus driver abstract
  • Physically able to drive and perform all duties related to school bus driving
  • Possesses a strong work ethic, is reliable, and dependable
  • Knowledge of state regulations
  • Basic knowledge of bus maintenance
