Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal) with Security Clearance

Location: Joint Base Lewis McChord

Duties
* Perform duties as ATC Facility Chief in either Control Tower, Ground-controlled Approach (GCA), or Airspace Information Center (AIC).
* Recommend selections for vacancies, awards and other personnel actions.
* Plan, schedule, assign, direct and review work of subordinates.
* Establish contact with and controls aircraft to touchdown at the airfield after coordinated release from approach control.
* Perform ground control/clearance delivery duties, assuring effective movement of aircraft on all areas of the airport.
* Receive, posts, and relay flight data to the local controller and ground control/clearance delivery.
* Initial and issue control clearance and instructions to maintain separation among local traffic density.
* Control air traffic by issuing exact and precise instructions within delegated and complex airspace. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
* This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
* An applicant not currently occupying a GS-2152 "covered" position is required to successfully complete a pre-employment flight physical prior to being placed into this position.
* Incumbent is subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
* Must possess and maintain Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS), Control Tower Operator's License (CTO) and/or Air Traffic Safety Oversight (AOV) certification.
* Must certify in the Control Tower, and Airspace Information Center (AIC) within the time limits specified in AR 95-2.
* Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Supervisor and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
* A one year probation to assess your ability to perform Supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized experience is defined as: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which includes issuing control instructions and advice to pilots in the vicinity of airports to assure proper separation of aircraft and to expedite their safe and efficient movement;

the ability to act decisively under stressful situations and to maintain alertness over sustained periods of pressure; coordinate plans and actions with pilots and other controllers; and take the safest and most effective course of action in emergency situations. Time in Grade Requirement:
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). This position has been identified by Department of Army as an Air Traffic Controller as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2109(1)(A) and (1)(B) who is actively engaged in the separation and control of air traffic;

or in providing preflight, inflight, or airport advisory service aircraft operators; or is the immediate or second-level supervisor of any employee described above. As described under 5 U.S.C. 8401(35)(B), this also includes the immediate supervisor of the person described in 5 U.S.C. 2109(1)(B). As such, this position is covered under special retirement coverage.
