Summary

The Oakville School District is seeking a dedicated and responsible Leave Replacement Substitute Bus & Van Driver for the 2026/2027 school year beginning on 8/28/2026. This position is expected to last the duration of the school year. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school, as well as to various school-sponsored events.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to student safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate school buses and vans to transport students to and from school and extracurricular activities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, student counts, and incidents.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and safety guidelines.
  • Assist students in boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students regarding transportation schedules and any changes.
  • Manage student behavior on the bus or van, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Report any vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required by the school district.
Requirements
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a school bus or van preferred.
  • Clean driving record with no serious violations or accidents.
  • Previous experience driving a school bus or van preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage student behavior and maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures related to student transportation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late afternoons.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
