Diesel Mechanic
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostics on diesel engines, electrical systems, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, suspension, and HVAC systems to identify issues accurately.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on construction machinery such as excavators, forklifts, tractors, and other heavy equipment.
- Utilize OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) schematics and technical manuals for precise repairs and adjustments.
- Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems related to electrical diagnostics, equipment troubleshooting, or mechanical failures to restore optimal performance.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to extend machinery lifespan and ensure safety compliance.
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks and tire service to support equipment operation and safety standards.
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic preferred.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment mechanics including construction machinery maintenance and automotive diagnostics.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and schematics for repairs.
- Familiarity with excavator, directional drill, forklift operation, and construction machinery servicing is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform electrical diagnostics on electrical systems such as air brake systems, and electrical wiring.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with a focus on equipment troubleshooting and repair accuracy.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various environmental conditions.
- Valid certifications related to diesel engine repair, brake repair, suspension alignment, or hydraulics are a plus.
- Education:
High School or equivalent - Experience:
3 years diesel mechanic experience preferred, but not required - License/Certification:
Class A CDL Preferred - In depth knowledge of heavy equipment/diesel machinery and hydraulic, electrical, and other systems and their components
- Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) and precision measurement tools, e.g., calipers.
- Know how to operate shop tools, e.g., power drill, power saw, other related power tools, air tools, chipping guns and scalers, impact guns, cutting torch and gas welding equipment, etc.
- Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, blueprints, etc.
- A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem‑solving ability
- Must adhere to company, state and federal safety requirements.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers and supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to pass pre‑employment and random drug screens.
- Must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail.
- Ability to manually lift a maximum of 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires two or more people.
- Ability to manipulate weight in excess of 50 pounds, using equipment such as dollies or machine lifts.
- Physical activities may include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, and climbing.
- Work occurs in all seasons; dress appropriately for current weather conditions.
- Over‑the‑road driving may include inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.
- Exposure to extreme cold or hot temperatures while working outside.
- Driving to and from job sites to repair downed equipment will occur.
