The job of Para educator is done for the purpose of assisting a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of individual and/or small groups of students; and providing instructional and clerical support to teacher/s and staff.
This job reports to Building Administrator
Essential duties include administering a variety of assessments, assisting special education students and other identified students, assisting students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, attending meetings and in-service presentations, conferring with teacher/s, implementing instructional programs and lesson plans, instructing special education students and other identified students, maintaining classroom equipment, work area, student files/records, modifying classroom work/homework, monitoring individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings, performing record keeping and clerical functions, promoting good habits, recording observations and incidents relating to specific students, and responding to inquiries from staff.
Other duties may include assisting other personnel as may be required.
Minimum qualifications include skills to perform multiple, non-technical tasks, knowledge to perform algebra and/or geometry, ability to schedule activities, flexibility to work with others, and ability to communicate with diverse groups.
Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized procedures, providing information and/or advising others, and operating within a defined budget and/or financial guidelines.
The working environment requires some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent stopping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.
Job related experience is desired. Education requirement is a high school diploma with a 2.5 GPA. Required testing includes a pre-employment proficiency test (if needed) and a valid first aid certificate. Continuing education/training clearances include WA State Apprentice Program (voluntary), WSP/FBI background clearance, and additional training may be needed:
Washington Sexual Misconduct Inquiry, lifting & positioning, toileting/diapering, etc. Fundamental Course of Study and General Para Certificate.
