Salary: $175 1/2 day (4 hours), $350 full day (8 hours)

Position Overview

Washougal School District is seeking dynamic, visible, and dedicated Certificated Guest ( Substitute) Principals (K–8) to provide seamless educational, instructional, and operational leadership across elementary, or middle school settings during administrator absences.

As a model of integrity and ethical behavior, the Guest Principal maintains a strong physical presence across all school environments—classrooms, hallways, common areas, lunchrooms, and grounds. This leader ensures continuous alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan, fosters a safe and inclusive school culture, supports positive behavior systems, and maintains active, positive relationships with staff, students, families, and key community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
1. School Culture & Community Engagement
  • Maintain a visible, accessible presence throughout the school day (classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, arrival/dismissal, school grounds).
  • Sustain a shared mission and vision focused on continuous improvement of teaching and learning across grade levels.
  • Promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual safety for all students and staff.
  • Partner authentically with families and the community, prioritizing engagement with historically underserved populations.
2. Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Alignment
  • Support effective instruction using the Center for Educational Leadership (CEL 5D+) Instructional Framework.
  • Maintain active support for key district initiatives, including Professional Learning Communities (PLC), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Inclusionary Practices, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).
  • Assist staff in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to Washington state standards and district goals across K–8 learning contexts.
3. Operational & Resource Management
  • Oversee day-to-day school operations, student behavior management, climate management, and facility safety.
  • Support staff oversight and maintain positive, collaborative staff relationships.
Qualifications & Requirements Education
  • Master’s Degree in Education (Required)
  • Classroom Teaching Experience (Required)
  • Washington Administrator Certificate eligibility (Required)
  • First Aid / CPR Certification (Required)
Experience & Knowledge
  • Preferred:
    Prior experience as a building administrator in a K–8 public school setting.
  • Experience with CEL 5D+ Instructional Framework preferred.
  • Deep understanding of K–8 curriculum, instructional strategies, interventions, Special Education functions, and Highly Capable programming.
  • Understanding of child and adolescent physical, emotional, and intellectual development across the K–8 spectrum.
  • Proficiency in leveraging technology to support learning, including 1:1 student device environments.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution, high-stress situation management, and culturally responsive leadership.
Certificated & License Requirements
