The Senior CNC Machinist serves as a highly skilled journeyman-level machinist responsible for independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC lathes and mills. This role serves as a technical leader within the manufacturing organization and provides mentorship to machinists at all levels while ensuring production goals, quality requirements, and customer expectations are achieved.
Key Responsibilities- Independently perform complete setups on CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machining centers
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and process documentation
- Apply GD&T principles to determine setup strategy, inspection requirements, and process capability
- Select tooling, work holding, and machining strategies for efficient production
- Troubleshoot machines, tooling, programming, and quality issues
- Optimize machining processes for cycle time, tool life, and quality performance
- Perform first article inspections and support process validations
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production teams
- Mentor and train Machinist I, II, and III personnel
- Lead setting up reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support new product launches and prototype work
- Assist with processing documentation and standard work development
- Maintain strict compliance with quality standards, customer requirements, and material traceability
- Serve as a technical resource during production challenges and escalations
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- 8 or more years’ relevant CNC machining experience
- Extensive experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills
- Advanced blueprint reading skills
- Strong GD&T knowledge and application
- Expert use of precision measuring instruments
- Ability to independently troubleshoot machining and quality issues
- Journeyman Machinist certification
- Technical degree in Machining Technology
- Aerospace and/or defense manufacturing experience
- Experience with multi-axis machining centers
- Experience with probing systems and advanced inspection techniquesCAM software exposure
