The Senior CNC Machinist serves as a highly skilled journeyman-level machinist responsible for independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC lathes and mills. This role serves as a technical leader within the manufacturing organization and provides mentorship to machinists at all levels while ensuring production goals, quality requirements, and customer expectations are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently perform complete setups on CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machining centers
  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and process documentation
  • Apply GD&T principles to determine setup strategy, inspection requirements, and process capability
  • Select tooling, work holding, and machining strategies for efficient production
  • Troubleshoot machines, tooling, programming, and quality issues
  • Optimize machining processes for cycle time, tool life, and quality performance
  • Perform first article inspections and support process validations
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production teams
  • Mentor and train Machinist I, II, and III personnel
  • Lead setting up reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support new product launches and prototype work
  • Assist with processing documentation and standard work development
  • Maintain strict compliance with quality standards, customer requirements, and material traceability
  • Serve as a technical resource during production challenges and escalations
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
What You Bring to United Precision Corporation:
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 8 or more years’ relevant CNC machining experience
  • Extensive experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills
  • Advanced blueprint reading skills
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and application
  • Expert use of precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot machining and quality issues
Preferred
  • Technical degree in Machining Technology
  • Aerospace and/or defense manufacturing experience
  • Experience with multi-axis machining centers
  • Experience with probing systems and advanced inspection techniques
  • CAM software exposure
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement training

Physical Requirements:
  • Work requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching, etc.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment
  • May be exposed to variable noise levels, fumes, hazardous chemicals, or airborne particles
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination. Vision requirements include color vision and depth perception
  • Must be able to operate manufacturing and engineering machinery such as lapping, CNC lathe, and milling machines, etc.
  • Occasionally positions self to maintain manufacturing and engineering machinery, including under work stations.
  • Frequently moves raw and treated materials weighing up to 50 pounds across the warehouse for various purposes, as needed.
Working Conditions:

Work is generally performed in an office/warehouse environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in work schedule. No special coordination beyond those used for normal mobility, handling of everyday objects and materials, and use of office equipment is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
