The Opportunity
Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our team in Washougal, Washington
. As the Shop Technician, you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers.
As a Shop Technician
, your primary responsibilities include:
- Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components
- Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision
- Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components
- Documenting repairs and communicating job progress, issues, and status to management
- Assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving during the rebuild process
- Cross-training in other departments and performing additional duties or job functions as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge and competencies:
- At least 3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment or diesel equipment
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment strongly preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing complete equipment and component rebuilds
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, lifting devices, and power tools
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license

The base pay range for this role is: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience.
