Role
Summary:
The Sitka Ameri Corps Program addresses high rates of adverse childhood experiences in rural Alaska by fostering strong developmental relationships with youth. Members support this mission through enrichment activities, academic assistance, mentoring, mental health support, and capacity building. Members typically serve 36–40 hours per week in roles such as tutors, mentors, outreach workers, and community organizers. Members live in shared co-housing and help maintain a cooperative living environment.
Up to 10% of service hours may be spent participating in community activities to broaden cultural understanding.
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Adjust responsibilities with the administrative team based on school needs.
- Plan and lead enrichment activities drawing on member strengths.
- Provide academic support through tutoring, study skills and time management coaching.
- Supervise large study groups.
- Manage the merit buck store where students exchange credits for basic items.
- Assist with school clubs such as dance groups, GSA, and Student Council.
- Attend weekly meetings, support campus events, wear designated Ameri Corps gear, and follow all regulations for serving youth populations.
