Role Details

The Occupational Health & Safety and Training Advisor reports to the OHST Superintendent and the primary role is to develop, review, revise and present training, ensuring training documentation is maintained current. Also, to ensure training and safety procedures are compliant with the national, corporate and legislative standards, as well as the implementation and management of the onboarding induction, annual refresher training and all OHST related training while ensuring a safe, productive operation.

  • Manage all activities in a manner that prevents pollution and minimizes damage to the natural environment.
  • Prevent pollution and minimize waste generation through reduced consumption and increased re-use and recycling.
Stakeholder Requirements
  • To foster friendly and professional working relationships with all external Stakeholders/contacts. This includes landholders, members of the local community, contractors and visitors.
  • Operate in accordance with Company’s Stakeholder Policy.
Specific Departmental Requirements
  • Participate in competency-based training and assessment methods for all departments, including development and selection of training materials.
  • Develop and maintain training, procedural systems, and processes for the operations in accordance with requirements, industry best practices, and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OHST safe work procedures and promote high safety awareness, ensuring work is carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Administer Site Entry Procedure.
  • Manage OHST onboarding induction program, ensuring personnel are adequately inducted and trained in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures that apply at site.
  • Maintain all required training documentation for the site, ensuring employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors are current in INX.
  • Audit training and associated documentation to ensure compliance with corporate and MSHA requirements.
  • Conduct and review departmental training needs analysis and maintain an updated training matrix for all OHS and MSHA required training.
  • Actively contribute to new initiatives and implement changes as directed by the OHST Superintendent or delegate.
  • Support leadership by actively promoting, monitoring, and enforcing compliance of safe work practices.
  • Facilitate incident investigations, as needed, to establish root cause of events and determine corrective actions.
  • Facilitate and participate in the Formal Risk Assessment process.
  • Ensure regularly scheduled inspections of working areas, stockpiles, waste dumps, etc. are being conducted by leaders.
  • Track compliance with established KPIs.
  • Ensure task observations and AFLs are being conducted by leaders and track compliance of operators with established KPIs.
  • Audit and track controlled documents to identify documents requiring review, informing responsible leaders of required review dates.
  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviors that are consistent with Company values.
  • Coach and mentor site leaders and employees on inspections, task observations, AFLs, etc. through one on‑one or group training in the field.
