Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

Perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating, cooling, and other building systems.

• Two (2) years of maintenance and custodial experience
• Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check
• Qualify for SFA’s commercial automobile insurance
• A current valid driver’s license

• General carpentry and repair
• Methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
• Common janitorial equipment (broom, ladder, step stool), motorized vehicles and power equipment (vacuum, power tools, yard equipment)
  • Use power and hand tools
  • Work independently in absence of supervision
  • Build good rapport with shareholders, clients and staff
• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Inspect and identify facilities, equipment or machines in need of repair
• Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs
• Plan repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed
• Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician (e.g., repairing drywall, painting, doors, and other building fixtures)
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of facilities
• Order supplies and materials needed for cleaning, repairs, and maintenance
• Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk and stand for prolonged periods; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, twist; regularly push, pull, lift, and carry light to moderately heavy objects and occasionally objects over 45 pounds; requires ability to operate various equipment.
