Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The nurse contributes to departmental goals by delivering compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy, and by promoting a culture of innovation and professional development.
KeyAccountabilities
- Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and to develop a care plan in collaboration with the patient and interprofessional team.
- Plans and coordinates care needs in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise in the assigned specialty and performs all functions of the professional clinical nurse (RN), ensuring care is age appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific.
- Identifies ways to improve the patient’s experience of care, streamline processes, and lower costs while promoting quality.
- Contributes to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians.
- Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other team members, collaborating to solve problems and improve patient care.
- Demonstrates, anticipates, and proactively manages risk to prevent crises.
- Performs skillfully in life‑threatening emergencies, matching demands and resources during crisis situations.
Current Wisconsin RN Licensure. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred;
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Medical / Surgical Departments – Critical Access Hospitals:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). - Medical / Surgical Departments – Emergency Departments:
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). - Emergency Departments:
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). - Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC): RNs with < 1 year of ED experience must complete TNCC within 18 months of hire and maintain every 4 years; RNs with > 1 year of ED experience must complete within 12 months.
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC): RNs with < 1 year of Pediatric ED experience must complete ENPC within 18 months of hire and maintain every 4 years; RNs with > 1 year of Pediatric ED experience must complete within 12 months.
- Critical Care / Intermediate Care Departments:
American Heart Association ACLS and PALS. - Neuro Department – Neenah:
American Heart Association ACLS. - Cardiac Department – Appleton:
American Heart Association ACLS. - Cardiovascular / Special Procedures / Cath Lab:
American Heart Association ACLS. - OB Departments:
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) training within one year of employment and repeat every 3 years. - Operating Rooms – Appleton & Neenah and Neenah:
American Heart Association ACLS and PALS;
Operating Rooms – Critical Access Hospitals:
American Heart Association ACLS. - Fond du Lac Hospital – Inpatient:
American Heart Association ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire.
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. The job is exposed to blood‑borne pathogens and requires manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to perform patient care procedures.
Work EnvironmentFrequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments; occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise level. Standing and walking for extended periods of time, transporting, transferring, and positioning patients and equipment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents, and aggressive or combative patients. The position requires compliance with department‑specific competencies.
