Shift hours: 9:30am to 1:30pm
Responsibilities- Assembles and prepares the necessary equipment required for daily food service to students and/or teachers; preheats ovens; obtains necessary funds (cash, change) for registers; prepares a disinfectant wash water and wipes down all counters and tables within the food service environment.
- Schedules and secures student and/or adult helpers and ensures performance of assigned tasks; substitutes and/or arranges substitutes for absent workers as necessary and according to established guidelines.
- Monitors student lunch sales and maintains confidentiality of student meal status in the School Lunch Program.
- Performs cashiering functions for students and ensures that the serving line operates in an efficient and effective manner.
- Prepares daily serving and cashiering reports according to established procedures (production records, freezer/cooler temperature logs, bank deposit summary).
- Using IFAS, calculates and requisitions food, cleaning and paper supplies needed from Central Kitchen warehouse/delivery personnel.
- Cleans, sanitizes and dismantles the serving line after the meal; stores leftover food and supplies according to regulations and HACCP principles; performs basic custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping and trash removal.
- Prepares bank deposit for pick up by food service delivery drivers.
- Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers and school site staff.
- When more than one Server/Cashier is assigned, a "Lead" shall be chosen to give direction; may perform additional related NS tasks as delegated by the NS Supervisor or Assistant NS Supervisor.
Basic food service safety and sanitation, National School Lunch Program regulations, basic food preparation, computer input skills, basic office procedures such as phone answering, filing, and 10-key adding machine.
Core SkillsComputer input and basic math skills.
Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED. Previous education, training, work or life experiences which provide reasonable evidence of successful performance of the tasks listed. Such experience may be evidenced through three (3) to six (6) months of cashiering and/or meal preparatory experience.
Licensing RequirementsValid Alaska driver's license. Must submit an "Alaska Food Worker" card upon hire.
Physical RequirementsEmployee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employee must be able to lift/carry up to 40 pounds, and push/pull with a maximum force of 22 ft/lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.

The offer is conditioned on the candidate's participation in the WorkSTEPSevaluation program at least 3 days before the start date, completing a release authorizing MSBSD, WorkSTEPS, and the testing facility to conduct the post-offer examination and share information, and successfully completing the program to demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively perform essential functions.
