Correctional Officer 1 – Goose Creek Correctional Complex
The Alaska Department of Corrections is recruiting for multiple Correctional Officer 1 positions at the Goose Creek Correctional Complex (GCCC) in Wasilla, Alaska.
What You Will Be DoingEmbark on a career in corrections with numerous training and promotion paths. As a correctional officer, you will play a vital role in reforming those in custody and helping them positively contribute to society. You will complete an 12-14 month field training program and a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy, after which you will be promoted to Correctional Officer 2.

GCCC is located in the Mat Su Valley and is the newest addition to the Alaska State prison system. The 435,000‑square‑foot facility includes five buildings on a 90‑acre site, can house up to 1,472 inmates, and is staffed by 354 professionals. It features a state‑of‑the‑art medical department with a dialysis unit and the largest kitchen in the state, preparing 4,224 meals daily.

- Follow oral and written instructions, use business software, and communicate information effectively.
- Apply self‑defense, firearms, and appropriate force techniques, and act quickly in emergencies.
- Read, comprehend, and apply statutes, regulations, and procedures, and explain them to the public, colleagues, and inmates.
- Maintain order and discipline; operate the security control room; use techniques for handling unruly or violent prisoners; conduct routine security checks and inspections.
- Assist in creating and preserving a rehabilitation environment for prisoners.
- Must be at least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
- Must possess a high school or GED diploma recognized by a state or local school district, or a General Educational Development certificate.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license at the time of appointment.
- Must be willing to work shift assignments; on‑call availability may be required.
- Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination; appointment is conditional upon these results.
- Must have a clean criminal record: no felony or misdemeanor involving domestic violence, no serious offenses involving violent or sexual conduct, and no convictions for the abuse, trafficking, or possession of controlled substances within specified periods.
Appointment to Correctional Officer 1 is conditional, pending successful completion of background screening, drug testing, medical examination, and psychological evaluation. Failure to provide required documentation will result in ineligibility for interview or further consideration.
