Job Description
NANA Construction is seeking a reliable and hardworking General Laborer to support civil construction operations in remote Alaska. This position involves hands-on labor during the construction season and property inspections and maintenance checks during winter months to ensure facilities, equipment, and sites remain safe and operational in extreme conditions. The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors in harsh weather, follows safety procedures closely, and can operate independently when required.
Responsibilities- Assist skilled trades and equipment operators with daily construction activities.
- Perform tasks such as excavation support, material handling, site cleanup, and basic carpentry.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operate hand tools and small power tools safely and efficiently.
- Follow project plans, supervisor instructions, and company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support project needs.
- Conduct scheduled property inspections twice daily during winter months.
- Monitor buildings, yards, and equipment for issues related to snow load, ice buildup, freezing, or damage.
- Check heating systems along with the sewer and water to prevent freeze ups.
- Perform snow removal on walkways.
- Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or damage promptly to management.
- Ensure sites remain secure and accessible during winter conditions.
- Immediately report all incidents/accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous construction or general labor experience.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme cold, snow, wind, and remote conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and performing manual labor.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during winter checks.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
- Ability to operate snow machines, ATVs, or trucks.
- Experience working in Alaska or remote locations preferred.
- Familiarity with cold-weather operations and winterization practices preferred
- OSHA 10/30 or similar safety training preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Steel toed boots required on the job.
