* JOB SUMMARY:
** The Carpenter performs skilled carpentry and general construction work in support of STG construction projects across Alaska, including rural job sites. This position is responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining rough and finished wood structures such as concrete forms, framing systems, scaffolding, bridges, boardwalks, and temporary facilities, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and project schedule requirements. Working closely with foremen, project managers, and other trades, the Carpenter contributes to efficient jobsite operations, adapts to changing project needs, and performs work in challenging weather and environmental conditions.
This role requires strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in rural field settings.

* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
*** Perform skilled carpentry and general construction work for extended periods, often in adverse or extreme Alaskan weather and rural field conditions.
* Collaborate effectively with foremen, project managers, and other trades to support safe, efficient, and timely project completion.
* Follow directions from supervisors and senior personnel while demonstrating initiative, accountability, and consistent productivity on the jobsite.
* Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and layout instructions to accurately measure, cut, and assemble materials.
* Construct rough and finished wood structures—including concrete forms, framing systems, scaffolding, boardwalks, bridge supports, and temporary shelters—by measuring, cutting, assembling, anchoring, bracing, erecting, and fabricating components using hand and power tools.
* Set grades, perform basic layout, and verify dimensions to ensure structures meet project plans, tolerances, and quality standards.
* Install, strip, and repair concrete formwork and assist with placement and finishing activities as required.
* Apply a versatile construction skill set to assist other trades as needed to meet changing project demands.
* Load, unload, stage, and transport materials, tools, and supplies using proper lifting techniques or light equipment.
* Operate small tools and light equipment such as generators, compactors, pumps, chainsaws, forklifts, or telehandlers as trained and authorized.
* Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition; perform routine care and minor maintenance of assigned tools.
* Maintain consistent and punctual attendance and adhere to established work schedules and rotations.
* Work as a team player in a respectful and cooperative manner; support and mentor less experienced trades personnel when appropriate.
* Participate in daily job hazard analyses (JHAs), safety meetings, and required training; comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
* Identify potential hazards, stop work when necessary, and actively contribute to maintaining a safe jobsite.
* Inspect completed work to ensure craftsmanship, structural integrity, and compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
* Complete and submit required documentation, timecards, reports, and other paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
* Promptly report incidents, unsafe conditions, or activities that may impact safety, ethics, or company operations to the Risk Manager or appropriate leadership.
* Represent STG in a professional manner and act in the best interest of the company at all times.
* Share responsibility for cooking, cleaning, and general upkeep of field quarters when required.
* Travel and work at rural project locations for extended periods, including rotating schedules as required by project needs**.
*** Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
** SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
** This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
** KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
*** Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, terminology, and standard carpentry and general construction practices.
* Knowledge of rough and finish carpentry techniques including framing, concrete formwork, scaffolding, temporary structures, and structural assemblies.
* Proficiency in the safe use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and small construction equipment.
* Skill in performing measurements, layout, and basic grade/level work using tapes, squares, lasers, and other layout instruments.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, safety rules, drawings, and other technical documents.
* Basic math skills sufficient to calculate dimensions, angles, square footage, and material quantities accurately.
