Position OverviewGlobal Diving & Salvage, Inc. is looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator who thrives in dynamic, hands‑on environments. This role goes beyond the traditional equipment operation. You will play a key role in Marine construction and dive‑supported projects, operating excavators on land and on floating barges while collaborating with dive teams. Operators must maintain strict compliance with corporate/office policies & procedures, established health and safety protocols, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
PositionEssential Job Functions
- Perform work involving the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the completion of various construction projects
- Operate equipment per manufacturer safety recommendations.
- Manipulate or depress excavator controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate the excavator arm's speed and direction and the unit's position.
- Use attachments such as thumbs or specialized hydraulic attachments if necessary.
- Perform inspections and daily equipment inspections
- Clean and maintain heavy equipment and attachments
- Observe the operation of equipment or systems to identify hazards and the need for adjustments, repairs, or replacements, and inform the supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Assist on deck to support dive operations as needed
- Don all required personal protection equipment (PPE), including but not limited to a hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
- Other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five years of excavator and heavy equipment operating experience
- Experience operating equipment on floating barges
- Experience with dive operations or working with divers preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills
- Rigging and signal person training required
- Must be able to withstand the following per day in all weather conditions (Sun, Rain, Sleet, and Snow) doing physical labor in varying temperature extremes: stand, walk, push‑pull, squat, crouch, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, climb stairs and ladders; repetitive reaching, repetitive hand use
- Must be able to use fingers, hands, arms, legs, and feet in precise, coordinated movements to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Move in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Use appropriate hand tools (e.g., hammer, four‑foot level) and power tools (e.g., skill saw, chain saw, drill) to properly measure, cut, and plumb piling for installation; and fit and drill timbers for installation in the fender system. The assembly and disassembly of pile driving equipment.
- Ability to meet HAZMAT physical & additional fitness ability requirements for the position
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
