About Brave:
Brave is on a mission to protect the human right to privacy online. We’ve built a free web browser that blocks creepy third‑party ads and trackers by default, the only native adblocker that is not limited by Manifest V3. We also provide a private search engine with a truly independent index and a private ad network that directly rewards you for your attention.
Already 100 million people have switched to Brave, and millions more each month.
We are hiring a member of the Brave privacy team to work on filter list‑based ad & tracker blocking. This role focuses on maintenance, debugging and fast fixes via ad‑block rules. You will spend most of your time ensuring websites work on Brave, shipping blocking rules that make users’ lives easier (e.g. cookie‑consent‑notice blocking) and coming up with clever ways to counter adversarial websites that discriminate against our mission.
Responsibilities- Creating and maintaining Brave’s ad‑block rules and shipping fast fixes for breaking websites (multiple automated deployments per hour).
- Reverse‑engineering and debugging parts of the Web (HTML, CSS and especially JavaScript) that interact badly with Brave’s third‑party ad‑blocking.
- Contributing to open‑source ad‑blocking projects like Easy List or uBlock Origin and ensuring Brave users get the best ad & tracker blocking experience.
- Monitoring and addressing community feedback by creating fixes to resolve user‑submitted reports.
- Helping the privacy team come up with novel ways to solve web‑compat issues categorically (e.g., Cookiecrumbler).
- Proficiency in JavaScript; at least 3 years of experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the ad‑blocking and filter list ecosystem (or willingness to learn).
- Comfort with Dev Tools for reverse‑engineering websites, debugging code, and understanding how web apps work.
- Very comfortable working and communicating asynchronously with a geographically‑distributed team.
- Proficiency working with Git and comfortable collaborating on Git Hub.
- Experience with ad‑blocking rules and filter lists.
- Experience reverse‑engineering complex JavaScript on adversarial websites.
- Experience participating in open‑source communities.
- Ability to handle conflict in the face of competing priorities.
- Familiarity with Web technologies and the Web security model.
- Excitement about privacy, anonymity, and a user‑first Web.
- Highly competitive salaries & benefits.
- Generous home‑office stipends.
- Fully remote team (no office, no commute) with a low‑meeting culture.
- Flat org structure and collaborative environment.
