Financial Accounting Supervisor

The Financial Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while supervising the accounting team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, effective internal controls, and timely completion of accounting activities. The successful candidate will be a hands‑on leader with strong analytical skills, inventory accounting experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Accounting

Operations & Financial Reporting
  • Supervise the accounting team and oversee daily accounting activities.
  • Report directly to the Financial Controller.
  • Review, analyze, and prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide supporting commentary on financial results.
  • Supervise monthly general ledger account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve general ledger discrepancies and financial variances.
  • Lead the month‑end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and reviews are completed timely.
  • Review bank reconciliations and assist with bank payment approvals.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
  • Oversee inventory reconciliations across multiple locations, including retail, distribution, and sourced inventory.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory‑related accounts, including:
    • Inventory
    • In‑transit inventory
    • Receivers Not Vouchered (RNV)
    • Purchase Price Variance (PPV)
    • Assist in maintaining inventory controls and ensuring accurate inventory valuation.
Compliance & Controls
  • Implement and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Manage state sales tax filings and compliance requirements.
  • Support year‑end audits and assist with audit preparation and documentation.
Business Partnership & Support
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve financial discrepancies and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Assist the President of Finance and Financial Controller with special projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide HR‑related support, including payroll administration, employee benefits, and retirement plans.
  • Participate in financial reviews and presentations with senior leadership.
  • Foster a collaborative and team‑oriented work environment.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive, hands‑on accounting experience.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with cost accounting and ERP/accounting software systems preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and reconciliation processes.
