Staff Accountant – Construction | Waterbury, CT
Compensation: 70k - 90k
A growing construction-focused organization is seeking a motivated Staff Accountant with strong project accounting experience to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant who has hands-on experience with job costing, AIA billing, and construction financial operations.
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting project accounting, maintaining accurate job cost data, and ensuring timely and accurate billing across multiple construction projects.

As a Staff Accountant, you will:
- Maintain and support job cost accounting, ensuring costs are accurately tracked by project
- Assist with preparation and submission of AIA billing and progress billings
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate cost allocation and billing
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable related to construction projects
- Review project financials, including budgets vs. actuals and cost-to-complete
- Assist with change order tracking and integration into job cost reporting
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for management
- Support audit preparation and provide required documentation
- Help maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience as a Staff Accountant, preferably in construction or project-based accounting
- Strong experience with job costing (required)
- Experience with AIA billing or construction billing processes (strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with construction accounting systems (Sage or similar preferred)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and project-based financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines as a Staff Accountant
