Adult Basic Education Teacher is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering effective, goal‑oriented instruction aligned with adult education curriculum standards and student learning needs. The teacher provides individualized, small group, and classroom instruction to support students in achieving academic, career, and personal goals while maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment.

  • Plan and prepare goal‑oriented, curriculum‑aligned instruction that addresses student learning needs, educational levels, and learning styles.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans that reflect curriculum objectives and instructional goals.
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching methods to provide individualized instruction, small group instruction, and remedial support as needed.
  • Integrate technology into classroom instruction to enhance student learning and digital literacy skills.
  • Develop relevant, sequential learning activities that engage, challenge, and support students with diverse abilities and educational backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to learning.
  • Maintain classroom standards and student expectations that support multiple learning styles, ability levels, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Teach assigned content areas to support student achievement and growth as outlined in the curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and maintain accurate records of student achievement and instructional outcomes.
  • Maintain documentation and evidence of student progress toward curriculum goals.
  • Collaborate with other Adult Education staff to develop cohesive curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and program goals.
  • Utilize appropriate textbooks, instructional materials, and technology resources, including computers, online platforms, videos, and internet‑based resources, to enhance instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date daily attendance records and student progress documentation.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and administrators.
  • Support and follow all school policies, procedures, and Adult Education program expectations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Adult Education Principal.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and either a Connecticut teaching certificate or an Adult Education Authorization (106/107 certificate) through the State Department of Education.
  • 106 - Adult Education Endorsement
  • 107 - External Diploma Program and Non Credit Mandated Programs

8:00 am - 1:15 pm Monday - Friday; $38 per hour.
