Position: Distribution Design Associate Engineer (Hybrid Schedule)

Eversource is looking for a Distribution Design Associate Engineer to be located in Waterbury, CT
. This is an entry‑level position within the Distribution Design Engineer (DDE) progression reporting to an Engineering Lead. The role provides experience and training necessary for advancement to the fully qualified level of Distribution Design Engineer. Duties include assisting in identifying improvements and major repair needs on the distribution system, providing engineering support to Field Engineering Design for certain customer additions, assisting with system improvements for assigned circuits, reviewing daily interruption reports, analyzing projected circuit deficiencies (e.g., voltage, overloads), and developing recommendations on equipment replacement vs.

repair to maximize Return on Asset (ROA). The engineer will also participate in major restoration efforts, including Emergency Preparedness.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with the planning function and performance for all assigned circuits.
  • Assist in identifying benefits from individual projects and predicting desired outcomes.
  • Provide engineering support for specific projects.
  • Assist with engineering resolutions for multiple outages in the Distribution System.
  • Create field work in the current work management system.
  • Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in supporting EMF communications and/or measurements for customers, real‑estate department and customer negotiations for easements, account executives with customer quality of service issues, operations with distribution issues (review switching, develop contingency plans, prioritize work, monitor yellow tags, etc.), field engineering design, and P&CE recloser & breaker settings.
  • Consider safety in all circuit analysis.
  • Make direct contact with customers and develop corrective actions.
  • Provide regulator and capacitor control settings for electrical maintenance.
  • Assist in outage, voltage, and power quality investigations and engineer corrective action to prevent recurrence; provide required reports.
  • Work with DDE/Lead of distribution projects and present to the Connecticut Project Authorization Committee (CTPAC) for approval.
  • Evaluate proposed DG interconnection applications.
  • Review and implement annual procedures (e.g., TD941).
  • Utilize electronic software tools to model and analyze the distribution system (Syner Gee, PTI, USAmp, PI, Visio, etc.).
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned, including support to SOC.
  • Have nonexclusive, non‑supervisory storm restoration and emergency assignments.
Education, Experience and Skills

Education: A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required; electrical engineering preferred.

Experience: Zero (0) to three (3) years of equivalent experience in energy delivery is preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of distribution systems is desired.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable of various computer applications including Microsoft Office; circuit analysis software skills preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Compensation and Benefits
  • The annual salary range for this position is $79,000–$84,000, plus incentive. Salary progresses in accordance with the union contract. See the career site for an overview of our benefits.
