Wastewater FOG Inspector (Fat, Oil, and Grease) - Waterbury, CT

At Jacobs, we challenge what is currently accepted, so we can shape innovative and lasting solutions for tomorrow. As a Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG) Inspector, you will be an integral member of a collaborative team dedicated to ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential wastewater services.

• Ensure compliance with CT DEEP General Permit for the Discharge of Fats, Oils, and Grease and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct routine and follow‑up inspections of grease traps, interceptors, and discharge systems at class 3 and class 4 food service establishments (approximately 350 establishments) and other regulated facilities.
• Review and verify maintenance records, cleaning schedules, and disposal manifests to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Educate business owners and staff on proper FOG handling and disposal practices.
• Investigate complaints and potential violations related to FOG discharge.
• Prepare formal notices of violation and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
• Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Enter data electronically and maintain records within FOG systems (City View and Nobel).
• Collaborate with the Health Department and Engineering staff to coordinate enforcement.
• Assist in developing and revising program materials, outreach campaigns, and regulatory guidelines.
• Serve as liaison between the City, food service establishments, and regulatory agencies to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned with program goals.
• Support CMOM program and initiatives.
• Inspect commercial and industrial facilities to ensure compliance with wastewater pretreatment regulations and discharge permits.

• Experience in utility field work or a closely related field, such as food service operations, plumbing, municipal pretreatment programs, or industrial or municipal wastewater treatment processes.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle for fieldwork.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to manage and input data accurately.

• Prior experience in a municipal pretreatment or FOG compliance program, including inspection, enforcement, and reporting activities.
• Knowledge of Pretreatment Program regulation and familiarity with CT DEEP requirements and CMOM programs.
• Experience inspecting grease control devices, such as grease interceptors, grease traps, and oil/water separators.
