DescriptionPosition Purpose
At Saint Mary’s Hospital
, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Inpatient General Surgery unit delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered care in a fast‑paced Med/Surg environment, caring for adult and geriatric surgical patients throughout their inpatient stay. This role focuses on post‑operative recovery, ongoing assessment, and coordination of care, ensuring safe outcomes and a smooth transition from hospitalization to home or the next level of care.
What You Will Do
Provide comprehensive nursing care to post‑operative general surgery patients, including assessment, pain management, wound care, and monitoring for complications.
Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, case management, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient progression, recovery, and discharge planning.
Educate patients and families on post‑surgical care, medications, activity restrictions, and recovery expectations to promote safe transitions.
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing is required
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Ideal candidates will have one or more years of General Surgery, Med/Surg, or Acute Inpatient nursing experience
Preferred:
- BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross), certification support offered post‑hire
Important Consideration:
This role is not designed for new graduates or those seeking training through General Surgery and Med/Surg Nursing. Candidates must be able to function independently in the General Surgery unit.
Position Highlights- Part‑Time: 24 hrs/week – Night Shift
- 12‑hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays
- Hourly Staff RN position; pay range: $36.15 – $59.95/hour
