Rn Infection Control Nurse Coordinator - On Site

Position Purpose

Oversees the Infection Control Programs and processes for the local ministry they support. Supports the hospital-wide Infection Prevention Program, including the identification and reduction of infection risks among patients, staff members, physicians, other licensed independent practitioners, and other persons in the hospital environment. Works with leadership team to ensure all infection control incidents, outbreaks, & exposures are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.

Serves as an expert in infection prevention and control for departments and hospital personnel. Ensures on going Joint Commission (TJC) requirements and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and /or accrediting agencies are met.

Serves as an expert in infection prevention and control for departments and hospital personnel. Ensures on going Joint Commission (TJC) requirements and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and /or accrediting agencies are met.

• Infection control services to all ages of patients and colleagues, particularly focusing on the prevention of disease transmission and/or infection
• Direct and coordinate the epidemiological investigation of all possible patient and staff exposures to infectious disease and directs the implementation of necessary controls to prevent further exposures
• Develop implementation of infection control policies, procedures, objectives and quality improvement activities
• Present infection control in-services in coordination with department heads, nurse managers and the Department of Education
• Assist in review and reduction strategies related to employee and patient sharps injuries and/or related safety issues
• Investigate risks and associated staff performance issues, and if necessary, works with managers to implement corrective actions of staff and/or programs

• CT RN license and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• 5 years of recent acute care experience
• Obtain Certification in Infection Control (C.I.C.) by APIC after successful completion of preparatory course, and after at least one year of infection prevention experience
• Current knowledge of applicable federal regulations and standards as related to OSHA, TJC, and Connecticut Department of Public Health required
• Previous experience with EPIC, Midas, Medmined, and NHSN preferred
• Working knowledge of basic epidemiologic principles, microbiology, and infectious disease processes
