Floating Counter Sales Representative

Locations:
Waterbury, CT
- Retail shop;
Hartford, CT
- Retail shop

The Floating Counter Sales position sells medical, industrial and specialty gases, welding equipment, hard goods, and tools to customers from multiple locations. This role responds to inquiries and concerns from walk‑in customers and callers, and provides additional warehouse support as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Solicit sales from walk‑in and telephone call customers, assist with product needs and locating merchandise.
  • Accurately complete and file all required paperwork in a timely manner, documenting sales, quotes, and other information.
  • Enter sales and quote data into the computer system and research information for customers.
  • Receive payments, enter sales into the computer, and manage all administrative and accounting procedures.
  • Wrap and bag merchandise; help customers load items into vehicles.
  • Provide warehouse support for shipping & receiving, inventory stocking, cleaning, labeling, and other tasks; restock store merchandise and arrange stock on shelves or racks.
  • Follow all safety procedures, especially for cylinder handling during exchanges and storage.
  • Maintain showroom cleanliness per management procedures.
  • Maintain current product pricing and literature, and keep product knowledge current.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Welding Technology, or Sales preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of product, warehouse, and/or sales related experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong background in gas, welding, and safety supply industry with retail experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP strongly preferred.
  • Prior welding knowledge (MIG, TIG, STICK) preferred.
  • Prior forklift operation experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Clear and effective speaking for explaining information to customers and employees.
  • Detail‑oriented and problem‑solving ability.
  • Forklift operation ability.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in various units of measure.
Physical Demands
  • May require remaining stationary for extended periods.
  • Routine traversal through branch office and warehouse.
  • Active listening and information exchange.
  • Frequent computer and telephone use; occasional forklift, pallet jack, or material handling equipment.
  • Positioning to stock inventory and handling cylinders.
  • Routinely move up to 60 pounds; lift more than 60 pounds with equipment.
  • Flexible to work overtime as needed.
Work Environment
  • Primarily indoor office, warehouse, or production work.
  • Possible loud noises and/or odors.
  • Occasional outdoor environments in various seasonal weather conditions.
