POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for general interior and exterior painting within the Hartford Public School System buildings using spray equipment, brush and roller. In addition, assist in the execution of duties required in all other building trades.

TYPICAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lay out, plan and execute the painting work, as well as provide an estimate of time and materials required.
  • Determine a materials list and tools needed to perform the task.
  • Repair and paint damaged sheetrock walls, cabinets, doors and frames, bulletin boards, blackboards and ceilings as needed.
  • Apply all types of paints and/or finishes.
  • Identify possible lead containing materials.
  • Complete jobs assigned in a timely and professional manner to the standards set forth by supervisor.
  • Report to the Facilities Department at the beginning and end of each shift for sign-in and sign-out.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
  • Maintain all paints supplies in a neat and professional manner.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND

EXPERIENCE:
  • High school or vocational school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred a minimum of 5 years as a painter or trades school equivalent, requiring the use of all types of painting equipment, including sprayers.
  • Knowledge of all materials commonly used in his/her job, their characteristics and use.
  • Required to have the knowledge and skill in the use of all tools commonly employed in the performance of the job, as well as knowledge of the care and maintenance of these tools.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety protection of the trade together with the specific requirements imposed upon workers in the performance of work by the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • Ability to work at heights greater than 20 feet on a ladder or lift, work on assignments that require bending for long periods of time, and be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Excellent past attendance and work record in prior position.
  • Required to have a valid driver's license and willing to use own vehicle.
  • Must be available for emergency work outside of normal scheduled hours.
  • Must be able to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month work year; forty-hour work week. May be required to work second shift hours 3:00 pm
-11:00 pm. Salary Schedule 83 of Local 566.Salary Grid $62,286 -$68,211 American Federation of State, Municipal and County Employees, AFSCME
