Director of Vermont Crime Information Center

Overview

The Vermont Department of Public Safety is seeking a collaborative, detail oriented, and strategically minded person to serve as the Director of the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC).

The Director oversees a wide range of criminal justice information programs that serve law enforcement agencies, vulnerable population support agencies, licensing and employment agencies, and the public. This person will collaborate across state government to facilitate data sharing initiatives, further information security measures, and advance services offered available across Vermont.

To further these goals the Director also leads a team of dedicated subject matter experts in various programs including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), Next Generation Identification (fingerprint), Computerized Criminal History (CCH), and Vermont Sex Offender Registry. The Director also represents Vermont in various national justice information collaboration efforts such as the FBI CJIS Advisory Policy Board, International Justice and Public Safety Network (Nlets), and National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics (SEARCH).

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS:
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Work is usually performed in a normal office setting. Incumbents must be able to concentrate on details and perform accurate work in the face of frequent interruptions. Human relations skills will be needed to deal with staff, criminal justice agencies and the general public. Pressure from work deadline is predictable as well as inherent liability issues due to the sensitivity and legal guidelines for the data.

Moderate work related travel will be required.

Master's degree or higher in public administration, criminal justice, criminology, computer science or a related field AND two (2) years at a professional level involving program administration, including the development, supervision or operation of automated systems or statistical analysis and reporting.

OR

Bachelor's degree in public administration, criminal justice, criminology, computer science or a related field AND four (4) years at a professional level involving program administration, including the development, supervision or operation of automated systems or statistical analysis and reporting.

A security clearance conducted by the Department of Public Safety will be required for candidates appointed to this class.
