Position: Lead Engineer (Hybrid Schedule)

Position Overview

Lead Engineer, Distribution Engineering – manages and supervises engineers, oversees capacity increases, capital plan projects, system reliability, ERP response, and more. Location can be Waterford CT or Madison CT. Requires availability for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA/CT/NH.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as lead to supervised engineers, managing and developing staff performance.
  • Optimize cost and performance of transmission/distribution system assets.
  • Strategically develop, expand, plan, design, maintain, and operate system and equipment to meet mission objectives.
  • Coordinate evaluation of system failures and appropriate resolutions to support operations during unplanned maintenance.
  • Contribute to the organization’s Life Cycle Plan – comprehensive long‑term plan for system assets.
  • Supervise, assign, prioritize, and direct work performed by other engineers.
  • May be situated in various service centers with accountability for specific asset systems or centralized components.
  • May require on‑call responsibilities.
  • Develop infrastructure strategy, operating philosophy, and technical basis for asset renewal decisions.
  • Work closely with System Planning on process integration (Bulk Power Substations).
  • Manage cost and performance of selected assets, including reliability analysis, trend analysis, and equipment condition monitoring.
  • Develop, justify, and authorize Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi‑year horizon and oversee ongoing management.
  • Create preventive maintenance optimization program.
  • Produce preliminary engineering designs and detailed designs as required.
  • Coordinate and prioritize Life Cycle Plan work within each service area and across Electric Operations and scheduling processes.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provide technical support and direction for operating areas during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Investment Planning on project justification and financial rationing.
  • Evaluate and select technology and equipment for the system.
  • Develop standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assume role of Project Manager as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 8–10 years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • No required licenses or certifications.

Working Conditions

Must be able to work emergency restoration assignments as required. Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH. Work performed primarily in an office environment; requires sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs. May require travel to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.

Work Schedule

Eversource supports work‑life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a third day set by employee and supervisor. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed.
