About This Role

The RN Cancer Center Registered Nurse provides clinical services and leadership in the coordination and management of patients, serving as a link between the patient and various oncology services. This role is ideal for nurses who are passionate about patient care in an oncology setting.

• Assess and document patient health status and identify health care needs.
• Evaluate laboratory values correctly and notify physician of abnormalities.
• Provide instruction in the disease process to the patient and family.
• Verify chemotherapy orders per protocol to validate drug dosage.
• Administer intravenous infusions and injections as ordered by the physician.
• Schedule pre‑and post‑treatment testing to aid in recognition of disease state.
• Reassess patient and work with physicians to manage treatment‑related side effects.
• Provide counseling/crisis intervention for adapting to changing health needs.
• Coordinate discharge planning for patient home care needs.
• Collect and maintain protocol information/data for research study protocols.

Education:

• BSN preferred or currently matriculating; must complete ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course and OCN within a year of hire.

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of med‑surg, oncology or infusion preferred.

Licenses &

Certifications:

• Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License required.
• BLS certification required.
