Introduction
We are hiring Licensed Practical Nurses for the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) – South Region. Positions located at Shore Road, Waterford, CT. The role includes full‑time and part‑time opportunities on first, second, and third shifts.

- Retention bonus: up to $600 annually for permanent second‑ and third‑shift LPNs (paid in July and December).
- Assist doctors and nurses with general care and treatment of individuals.
- Measure doses and administer medications, including insulin injections.
- Document medication administration using appropriate forms.
- Perform narcotic counts and monitor medication inventory.
- Administer intravenous medications when required.
- Report changes in patients to physicians.
- Ensure restraints are applied correctly.
- Transcribe medication orders.
- Dispense certain medications in doctor’s absence.
- Administer topical medication, enemas, suppositories, and Foley catheterization care.
- Take and chart vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration).
- Perform simple nursing treatments and monitor personal hygiene.
- Provide basic emergency first aid.
- Drive patients to appointments or outings as needed.
- Carry out related duties as required.
- Licensed Practical Nurse in Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact LPN license.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
- Experience administering medications and nutrition via G‑tube or J‑tube; glucose monitoring; insulin administration; respiratory treatments; colostomy/cecostomy/urostomy care; wound care; catheterization.
- Ability to support individuals with mild to severe challenging behaviors.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to keep records and lead staff.
- Knowledge of practical nursing specialties, bedside care, various medications, infection control practices, nutrition, and medical laboratory sciences.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Record keeping and staff leadership.
- May lift or restrain patients.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and risk of injury from abusive individuals.
- Work may involve unpleasant environments.
