Caritas Family Solutions, formerly known as Human Support Services, is seeking a caring indivudual for the position of PRN Crisis Worker to qualified candidates. This position is part of Caritas’s 24 hour Mobile Crisis Response Team, providing in the moment, face-to-face support to individuals experiencing mental health crises, throughout Monroe County.
It is a PRN position, where worker will sign up at will for crisis shifts. Referrals for crisis come through Caritas, 988, CARES, schools, police, and client families.

Position directly reports to Crisis Program Supervisor for all matters related to crisis response, consultation, and follow up. The Crisis Worker will use person-centered and strengths-based approach in supporting clients. This will include building rapport, assessing level of safety risk, safety planning, and referral to higher levels of care as necessary. Advocate for clients overall safety, needs, and well-being. Support clients in maintaining independence in the community, through building upon and teaching about coping skills and social supports.

Pay

Structure
  • Pay is $50 per weekday evening shift, $75 for each weekend day and holiday shift
  • Significant pay increase upon response to in-person to crisis calls
  • Paid training
Job Duties
  • Provide in the moment clinical care to individuals in crisis, through mobile crisis response, crisis intervention and stabilization, and follow-up.
  • Be available by phone for after-hours crisis support to clients and clinical staff. After-hours includes evenings and weekends.
  • Meet clients in their communities, including homes, schools, local jail, and Caritas offices.
  • Create IL State compliant safety plans to help clients remain safe and stable in their natural environments.
  • Refer clients to higher level of care - up to potentially psychiatric hospitalization - as needed and following consultation with Crisis Supervisor.
  • Assist clients served in increasing natural and community supports.
  • Assist clients in identifying and using their strengths.
  • Assist clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to participation in community resources.
  • Advocate on behalf of persons with behavioral health problems to protect their rights and reduce stigma.
  • Document all interactions with clients and affiliated parties in compliance with State and agency guidelines.
  • Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and when dealing with external agencies and/or individuals.
  • Be responsible for understanding clients rights, policy, and procedures.
  • Consult as needed with other involved persons, including family members, mental health providers, school staff, hospitals, and police.
  • Maintain professional standards and conduct at all times. Represent Caritas’s mission and values to the fullest extent.
Requirements Education

Must qualify as an MHP, including:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, psychology, or related human service field
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field, with two years documented clinical experience in mental health
  • High School Diploma or GED and 5 years’ experience in mental health or human services field
  • Practical nurse with valid license
  • Certification of Recovery Support Specialist
Experience/Skills

Preference given to candidates with strong knowledge and experience within mental health field, including crisis services. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Exercising good clinical judgment and resiliency in crisis situations, to react in prescribed manner. Experience with computer/electronic documentation of mental health services. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of effective coping skills and community resources.

Must have personal transportation and valid driver’s license in order to move to and from assigned locations. Have normal hearing and eyesight or corrective appliances which would allow for normal hearing and eyesight in order to relate to clients. Be able to lift at least 25 pounds, have the strength and agility to climb at least two flights of stairs.
