Inpatient needs are  very infrequent , with hospitalists admitting and managing patients and the Hem/Onc physician typically providing consult guidance by phone.

Locum Hematology/Oncology Physician Job Details

Weekly Estimated Pay:  $7,050–$8,350 per week

Schedule:

Monday–Thursday (most likely), full-time

Shift Duration:  8-hour days

Clinic

Hours:

8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Shifts:

16 shifts per month

Call:  Potentially 1 week and 1 weekend per month (phone calls only)

Patient Population:  Adults (18+)

Clinic Volume:  Approximately 16–20 patients/day

EMR:  Epic

Support:  2 nurses per provider plus referral/triage nurses; reception, lab, social work, referrals, dietitian

Inpatient Responsibilities:  Yes, but very infrequent (typical census 0–2; rarely requires onsite consult)

Hematology/Oncology Physician Requirements

Board Certification:  Hematology/Oncology (required)

Training:  Fellowship trained in Hematology/Oncology (required)

Licensure:  Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC (required)

Experience:

Hem/Onc physician experience is highly preferred; new graduates may be considered

Clinical

Skills:

Must be able to perform MUA (required)

Professional Standing:  Clean malpractice/background and recent NPDB self-query (required)

Key Responsibilities (Outpatient Hem/Onc)

Provide Hematology/Oncology consults and follow-up care in an outpatient clinic setting

Oversee administration of antineoplastic therapies in the clinic/infusion setting

Deliver and coordinate services including bone marrow biopsies, iron therapy, IVIG, phlebotomies, and related infusion treatments

Collaborate closely with nursing and ancillary teams to ensure efficient, patient-centered care

Support hospitalist teams with infrequent inpatient consult questions (primarily by phone)

Participate in teaching opportunities as available
