The School of Liberal Arts is seeking Adjunct Instructors to provide high-quality Sociology instruction at Hawkeye’s main campus. We are interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role models to lead our students. Overall, our Adjunct Sociology Instructor positions are:
- Face-to face instruction begins Fall semester 2026
- Class will be held onsite at our main campus
- Anticipated class schedule is Tuesday / Thursday from 11:10am – 12:35pm and/or 2:20pm – 3:45pm
As an Adjunct Instructor, you are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. Instructors will plan and guide the learning processes for students toward the achievement of curricular goals and objectives as identified and documented in course outline materials. Additional responsibilities include employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting course and student objectives; assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis according to department policies and procedures, and providing progress reports (evaluations and grades) as required.

EssentialJob Functions
- Provides course instruction in the area of Sociology.
- Reviews and/or plans weekly instructional plans and materials to ensure information meets current accreditation standards.
- Uses various instructional modalities as needed.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.
- Provides one office hour per week for student accessibility, consultation and reviews and responds to email in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to meet departmental goals on a regular basis.
- Supervises, recruits and advises students.
- Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, supervisors, other faculty, the program’s Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community.
- Teaches a clinical or lab course if applicable to the program/class.
- Participates in professional development opportunities when presented.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Unless otherwise approved, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
- Master’s Degree in Sociology or a related field with 12 or more credits in sociology.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, maintain student confidence, and protect operational integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff and the general public in a professional and personable manner.
- Previous teaching experience at the post‑secondary level.
Instruction will be face‑to‑face with anticipated hours being Tuesday/Thursdays this upcoming Fall 2026 semester.
