About RFA Engineering

RFA Engineering has provided product development and engineering services to industry leading customers since 1943, focusing on off‑highway equipment such as agricultural, construction, mining, recreational, industrial, and special machines.

Role Overview

This full‑time position is located onsite at our customer’s world‑class engineering and manufacturing facility. The role supports dynamic system modeling (DSM) and analysis for whole‑machine configurations, providing analytical support to product development and design teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct analytical support for product groups and develop a growing understanding of product function.
  • Lead the development of measurable dynamic performance specifications using simulation and engineering analysis methods.
  • Work with design teams to develop virtual simulation models that verify designs analytically.
  • Develop dynamic system analysis plans for specific product development programs and report results using a standardized reporting system.
  • Document processes to continually improve analytical development and verification of product designs.
  • Contribute to product and component technical specifications, design guidelines, and engineering analysis procedures.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Understand dynamic interactions of hydraulic systems, linkages, rigid bodies, engines, drive trains, and control systems.
  • Support robust control strategy development for product innovation and differentiation.
  • Use engineering analysis tools to assess complex hydro‑electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Maintain models using programming languages and concepts such as object‑oriented programming.
  • Contribute to the specification and selection of components and subsystems for optimal machine‑level performance.
  • Generate objective machine‑level dynamic performance objectives that capture ambiguous or subjective operator and customer feedback.
  • Support the vision for how analysis tools can change the way design and PV&V engineering work is done.
  • Resolve stability issues for nonlinear analyses that cannot be analyzed using linear theory.
  • Generate mathematical models for previously un‑modeled phenomena and analyze simulation results to distinguish design characteristics from model artifacts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
  • Master of Science with a concentration in System Dynamics is ideal.
  • Experience with hydraulics, controls, powertrain, and electrical systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simscape, Simulink, Simscape Fluids, and Simscape Multibody is desirable.
  • Experience in a production environment working with cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience with operating agricultural equipment or off‑highway mobile equipment.
  • Ideal candidate will have 1‑3 years of related work experience, but entry level is considered.
