Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry
Facility: UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital
Duration: 13 Weeks
Location: 1825 Logan Ave, Waterloo, IA 50703
PR: $33.5/hr on W2 + $1244/week Stipend
Weekly Gross Pay: $2450
Shift Notes: Nights – 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend including holiday rotation
Call: None
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Med Surg/Telemetry Registered Nurse for a 13-week assignment. The RN will provide high-quality patient care in a 130-bed facility with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio. The unit requires strong telemetry skills, including independent EKG/ECG interpretation and dysrhythmia management. Candidates must be comfortable floating to Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, and post-procedural areas as needed.

- Drips on Unit:
Heparin, Insulin, Lasix, Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Digoxin - EMR: EPIC
- Must pass Basic Dysrhythmia Assessment (80% or higher) during onboarding
Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med Surg/Telemetry patients
Interpret and monitor cardiac rhythms and telemetry strips
Administer and titrate cardiac drips per protocol
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Float to other units as required
Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC EMR
- Minimum 24 months recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience (required)
- First-time traveler accepted with at least 2 years of hospital experience
- EPIC EMR experience (required)
- Must confidently read and interpret EKG/ECG rhythms
- Experience with required drips (Heparin, Insulin, Lasix, Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Digoxin)
- Active Iowa RN License or Compact License (required)
- Driver’s License (required)
- Professional reference within the past 24 months (preferred)
- De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, SAMA) – required (can obtain during onboarding)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification – highly preferred (can obtain during onboarding)
- ACLS (AHA or ARC) – Required
- BLS (AHA or ARC) – Required
- MOAB – Required
- NIHSS – Preferred
