Medical Assistant II/Phlebotomist – UnityPoint Health, Allen

Shift: 08:30-05:00, 11:00-07:30 or 12:30-21:00. Every other weekend, holiday rotation, and 3 on‑call shifts per month. 0.8 FTE

Job

• Learn and understand basic techniques of phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients, outpatients and nursing home patients.
• Collect urine drug screens for occupational and medical collections.
• Perform routine nursing home draw routes if scheduled in early AM hours.
• Assist technologists with stocking supplies, washing laboratory dishes, inventory management, and follow up on reports.
• After competency, assist in training new staff in phlebotomy.
• Enter data and order samples into the Laboratory Information system.
• Register, order, and receive incoming specimens from reference labs and nursing home clients.
• Navigate the Hospital Information system as required for patient care.
• Answer incoming phone calls.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsers.
• May require frequent travel to area nursing home facilities.
