Operations Manager
The ideal Facility Operations Manager for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization's mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to those in need in our 16-county service area. This individual will be a vital component of the Food Bank's leadership team by providing over 8.3 million meals annually to the over 52,000 food insecure people in northeast Iowa.
As the Facility Operations Manager, this team member must demonstrate outstanding management, organizational, planning, and implementation skills to optimize distribution practices and develop new opportunities that support the Northeast Iowa Food Bank's strategic plan. The ability to work in a fast‑paced and progressive environment will be the key to success in this role, as the Northeast Iowa Food Bank continually strives to work towards closing the Meal Gap in northeast Iowa.
This individual will possess strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to develop a culture based on high‑performing and empowered teams. The Facility Operations Manager must have a strong sense of initiative to continually improve distribution at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

The Facility Operations Manager is a “working manager” role responsible for the safety, sanitation, and operational integrity of the Food Bank facilities. This position requires equal commitment to technical maintenance and facility cleanliness. You will lead a small team while personally performing hands‑on repairs and assisting with warehouse custodial duties. The goal is to maintain a facility that is audit/inspection‑ready, safe for staff and volunteers, and efficient for large‑scale food distribution.
The responsibilities of the Facility Operations Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide direct oversight and daily scheduling for the Facilities Maintenance Technician and Office Custodian.
- Serve on the Food Safety Committee and provide direct oversight for all food safety practices pertaining to maintenance, cleaning, pest control, and preventative maintenance.
- Oversee and work with leadership to manage capital improvements process of research, recommendation and implementation for building projects, renovations, and equipment acquisition.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure good communication, processes, and procedures for events, volunteer projects, and coordination of other projects that arise. Support the Northeast Iowa Food Bank's special food and fundraising events as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations and manage department workflow through a digital work‑order system.
Maintenance & Infrastructure
- Responsible for managing building and equipment maintenance, including building controls, pest control, snow removal, lawn care, and maintenance items.
- Responsible for managing maintenance contracts of all vendors including mechanical, electrical, fire sprinklers, and freezers, and coolers. This includes ensuring that they are maintained and fixed as needed.
- Develop, implement, and manage a computerized maintenance management system for the Food Bank.
- Assists with the development and implementation of written policies and procedures to ensure effective, efficient, and safe operations.
- Research, procure, and monitor inventory of maintenance parts and supplies.
- Works alongside Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Maintain the organization’s warehouse equipment (forklifts, electric pallet jacks, floor scrubbers) to reduce repair calls to third parties.
