Job Overview

Infusion Therapy Nurse (Day Shift, PRN) – 8am to 5pm at Allen Hospital - Waterloo, IA.

Provides specialized direct nursing care to patients with complex vascular access needs, including support and education of nursing staff on access procedures, line care, and maintenance. Evaluates nursing outcomes and monitors quality of care.

Responsibilities
  • Experienced in IV insertions, Midline and PICC insertions – performs and maintains IV access as needed.
  • Consults to identify vascular access needs.
  • Reviews vascular access related incidents and collaborates with infection prevention for CLABSI review.
  • Communicates with providers and pharmacy regarding infusion therapy.
  • Assists in managing infusion related complications, monitors outcomes, and creates quality improvement initiatives.
  • Authored and updates vascular access and infusion therapy protocols.
  • Well‑versed in the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, INS, FDA, and CDC.
  • Maintains evidence‑based practice for vascular access, infusion therapy standards, and decision protocols.
  • Serves as Finley affiliate representative for infusion therapy projects.
  • Manages IV insertion and therapy equipment, evaluates product go‑lives, and collaborates with clinical leaders and informatics for documentation and reporting efficiency.
  • Provides off‑shift support, competency validation, equipment assistance, and may travel to other UPH or nursing home facilities.
  • Required to work rotating weekends, holidays, and on call.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • One‑year clinical nursing experience (new grads considered).
  • Current RN license and valid driver’s license for work‑related driving.
  • BLS, PICC, and Chemo certification required within one year of hire.
  • Desire and ability to teach and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving capability and familiarity with INS standards.
  • Ability to flex hours for staff support, equipment or product needs.
