Overview
RN, PACU – Allen Hospital, Waterloo, IA
Shift: 4-8 hour shifts with rotating start times (10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m.). Weekday call and 1 weekend per month. Eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus.
Unit11-bay and 3-side room unit. PACU provides Phase I recovery from anesthesia and surgery. Patient population ranges from infant to elderly. Nurses are certified in BLS, ACLS and PALS, and specialize in airway management and aggressive acute pain management. 24/7 coverage with at least two RNs available.

- Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and ensures accountability in the plan of care.
- Utilizes critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintains responsibility for patient conditions.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and sharing knowledge through networking and research.
- Assesses and selects teaching strategies suitable for age, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and comprehension.
- Consults hospital resources to provide specialized education.
- Maintains patient and workplace safety by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting concerns promptly.
- Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current nursing license in the state of Iowa or eligibility per Iowa Board of Nursing; fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Multicultural sensitivity, customer/patient-focused.
- Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
- Critical thinking and independent decision-making abilities.
