Equipment Mechanic - Field

Job Description

Field mechanic responsible for performing replacement of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on heavy equipment such as aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, cranes, excavators, skid steers, dozers, tractors, and military heavy equipment (MRAP, HMEE, tanks). Utilizes technical support resources—including operator manuals, parts catalogs, and How Factory—to troubleshoot, determine procedures, and identify parts needed for repair. Performs unit condition inspections and reports, maintains a safe and orderly work area, and follows Altec safety practices and procedures.

Advises supervisors of situations that may impact customer relationships, provides accurate documentation, and demonstrates Altec Company Values.

• Perform replacement of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components
• Utilize all technical support resources in troubleshooting and parts identification
• Perform unit condition inspections and report findings
• Maintain work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner
• Perform all tasks consistent with Altec safety practices and procedures
• Advise supervisors of situations that may impact a customer relationship
• Provide accurate and sufficient information on all required documents
• Demonstrate Altec Company Values
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• High School Diploma, state‑approved High School Equivalency, or GED
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
• Physical effort to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
• A high level of dexterity
• As needed, provide basic tools per the Altec tool policy
• Drive motor vehicles
• Develop basic computer skills with Microsoft Office
• Ability to work overtime as required by customers
• Advocate safety in everything performed

$30‑35/hr depending on experience and skill. Hourly rate and potential for overtime varies relative to experience and location. Job openings exist across the U.S. and Canada.
