Title: Transportation Monitor •
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Classification: Operational Support

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Operational Services

Job Summary: Assist with the supervision and safety of students while being transported to school. The essential functions represent key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary based on the needs of the transportation department.

• High school diploma or equivalency
• Additional training related to the scope of responsibility is a plus

• Appropriate State of Iowa license and endorsements required for the vehicle assigned, or ability to obtain after hire
• Appropriate medical qualification

• At least 18 years of age
• Previous van or bus driving experience is a plus but not required

• Ability to drive a school vehicle as a substitute if a driver is absent
• Reliability and dependability
• Ability to get along with others
• Moral conduct in the best interest of children
• Patience, attentiveness, and even temperament
• Calmness under stress
• Freedom from addiction to narcotics or habit-forming drugs
• Freedom from addiction to alcoholic beverages
• Ability to operate a vehicle safely and knowledge of motor vehicle laws
• Ability to meet medical standards of state and federal transportation departments
• Ability to sit and remain alert for long periods
• Ability to assist passengers in emergencies
• Must pass pre-employment and ongoing drug testing
• Ability to easily enter and exit the school vehicle

• Assist in supervising and supporting students to ensure behavioral, health, and safety needs are met; report policy infractions as appropriate
• Physically assist the driver in loading and unloading students, including students with accommodations
• Perform visual safety equipment inspections at the start of each route
• Report all equipment damage and/or repair items using established procedures
• Assist in maintaining interior cleanliness and appearance of the school bus
• Help safeguard property and mechanical equipment
• Serve as a substitute driver when the regular driver is absent or unable to drive
• Adhere to district policies, procedures, and department work rules
• Maintain appropriate behavior of students in the vehicle
• Adhere to district and state policies on physical contact with children
• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis
• Maintain positive relationships with the public, students, and staff
• Maintain confidentiality
• Complete mandatory trainings and tasks on time
• Assist with other duties as assigned
