Position Summary

The 6 12 Curriculum Coordinator is a district-level administrative position responsible for coordinating curriculum development and implementation of high quality instructional practices across all content areas in grades 6 12. The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, building administrators, and department leaders to ensure coherent, standards-aligned curriculum, consistent pacing, and high-quality instructional practices at both the middle school and high school.

Qualifications

Required
  • Valid Connecticut teaching certification and Connecticut Intermediate Administrator (092) certification.
  • Successful teaching experience at the middle and/or high school level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design, instructional practices, and assessment in grades 6 12.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to analyze student achievement data and support data-informed instructional decision making.
Preferred
  • Experience serving as a department chair, instructional coach, or teacher leader.
  • Experience with curriculum development across multiple content areas.
  • Familiarity with district curriculum platforms, learning management systems, and Google Workspace tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Alignment
  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, building administrators, and department leaders to lead and coordinate curriculum development for grades 6 12 in all content areas.
  • Ensure curricula are aligned to Connecticut state standards, district priorities, and relevant assessments.
  • Facilitate vertical and horizontal articulation of curriculum between and within grades 6 12 to promote coherence and avoid gaps/overlaps.
Pacing Guides and Curriculum Documents
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update district pacing guides for all 6 12 courses in collaboration with department leaders and teachers.
  • Support the creation and revision of unit plans and lesson plan exemplars, including essential questions, learning targets, assessments, and instructional resources.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent format and repository for curriculum documents to ensure accessibility for staff.
Collaboration with Department Leaders and Administrators
  • Convene and facilitate regular meetings with middle and high school department leaders to review curriculum, pacing, assessment data, and instructional needs.
  • Partner with building administrators to monitor curriculum implementation and address curriculum-related issues that arise during the school year.
  • Support cross-school collaboration to ensure alignment of courses, expectations, and instructional materials between the middle school and high school.
Instructional Support
  • Provide ongoing, non-evaluative instructional support to teachers in grades 6 12, including co-planning, modeling lessons, co-teaching, and providing feedback.
  • Support teachers in using curriculum materials effectively, differentiating instruction, and implementing best practices for diverse learners, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners.
  • Assist staff in analyzing student work and assessment data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment.
  • Participate in and support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Professional Learning
  • Identify curriculum and instructional professional learning needs for staff in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and building administrators.
