Job Description

Position: Extended Day Program Support Assistant

Position Type: Part‑time

Department: Community Education

Location: Elementary

Reports to: Site Coordinator / Assistant Director and Director

Affiliation: non‑Aligned

Summary: Watertown Community Education provides quality enrichment programs for children, adults, and families. The Extended Day Program offers a safe, nurturing environment from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM daily for PreK‑Grade 5 students.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Flexibility in working directly with student groupings or supporting the Extended Day Site Coordinator with other program tasks as needed; tasks may vary day‑to‑day.
  • Answer the program phone and ensure smooth dismissal of students to approved pick‑up persons.
  • Assist with transitions and tracking of students to/from after‑school enrichment programs and the Extended Day Program.
  • Monitor the designated program entry/exit door following WPS protocols for visitors.
  • Collaborate with Extended Day Lead Teachers and the program site coordinator to provide clear, age‑appropriate expectations for children.
  • Use positive guidance and reinforcement techniques; model and teach age‑appropriate peer conflict resolution skills.
  • Engage appropriately with students, set expectations, and work with leaders to support all students.
  • Ensure proper use and care of program spaces and materials; perform daily cleaning tasks such as wiping tables and returning materials.
  • Assist Lead Instructor in maintaining a daily attendance log of all students.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures.
  • May be required to support other Extended Day Program site locations based on staffing or enrollment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Site Coordinator or Assistant Director/Director.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s Degree or coursework toward a degree preferred, not required.
  • At least six months experience working with school‑age children preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
Professional Commitment

The position requires a minimum of 2 days per week; 3–5 days preferred. Schedule flexibility is necessary. In addition to scheduled hours, the assistant may be required to attend:

  • Monthly meetings with the Extended Day Site Coordinator or Assistant Director/Director.
  • Annual mandatory program orientation and training days.
Annual Professional Development Requirement
  • CPR/First Aid Certification update.
  • Annual Watertown Public Schools required trainings.
  • Monthly Community Education meetings.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate computer/device, reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
