Job Description

The Climate and Culture Team Member plays a vital role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment. This individual supports the implementation of Responsive Classroom and Restorative Justice practices, ensuring that all students and staff feel a sense of belonging, connection, and purpose within the WPS community. The role combines student leadership, community‑building events, and staff equity facilitation to strengthen school culture and uphold WPS Core Values.

Responsibilities
  • School Community Building
    • Support the design and facilitation of school‑wide assemblies and initiatives for students.
    • Support the design and facilitation of school‑wide community‑building events for staff.
    • Collaborate with staff and families to coordinate community events such as Multicultural Night and other celebrations of diversity and belonging.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives that promote student voice, leadership, and shared responsibility for a respectful school climate.
  • Responsive Classroom & Restorative Justice Practices
    • Model and reinforce Responsive Classroom practices during daily routines, school events, and student leadership opportunities.
    • Facilitate and support restorative circles, conflict resolution sessions, and community‑building circles as needed for students and staff.
    • Provide safe breakout spaces during challenging moments for both students and adults, encouraging reflection and repair.
  • Faculty Collaboration & Equity Work
    • Partner with school‑based equity facilitators to design and lead circles and breakout spaces during monthly faculty meetings.
    • Help create professional learning opportunities that foster equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices across the school.
    • Contribute to faculty and staff discussions with a focus on collaboration, reflection, and building shared commitments.
    • Contribute to faculty and staff discussions and activities that focus on building a positive school culture.
  • Student & Family Engagement
    • Collaborate with the Family Engagement Facilitator and PTO to increase family involvement in community‑building events.
    • Support students in leadership roles, ensuring equitable access and representation in programs.
    • Help develop and sustain systems that recognize and celebrate student achievements, positive behavior, and contributions to the school community.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Responsive Classroom and Restorative Justice practices.
  • Strong facilitation skills, especially in leading circles and community‑building conversations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills to support events, programs, and initiatives across the school year.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and building a strong, positive school culture.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand‑held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
