Job Description

    Preference for 5 days/week, 6:45 AM - 8:15 AM.
  • Pay Rate: $22.23 per hour - $27.34 per hour based on relevant, job-alike experience
  • Incentive Program: Eligible for up to $1,000.00 bonus and/or stipend if criteria met.

Watertown Community Education is a self‑sustaining program of the Watertown Public Schools that provides quality enrichment programs and courses for children, adults, and families.

We are hiring Before School Assistant Teachers for the Before School Programs at the Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell schools. The program provides a safe, nurturing environment for a multi‑age/multi‑grade grouping of students in kindergarten through Grade 5 from 7:15 AM – 8:05 AM daily. Activities challenge each child to explore, discover, create, and grow.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Before School Program Site Coordinator and Community Education leaders to provide clear, age‑appropriate expectations for children to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Actively supervise students and ensure age‑appropriate toys, materials, crafts, etc. are available.
  • Use positive guidance and reinforcement techniques to support students.
  • Model and teach age‑appropriate peer conflict resolution skills and techniques.
  • Engage and interact appropriately with students, set expectations, and support all students by meeting individual strengths and needs.
  • Ensure proper use of and care for program spaces and all materials/equipment belonging to the program and/or school, including daily cleaning tasks such as wiping down tables, pushing in chairs, and returning materials to dedicated storage areas.
  • Assist the Before School Site Coordinator in maintaining a daily attendance log of all students.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures.
  • May be required to support at other Before School Program site locations based on program needs, staffing, and/or enrollment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Before School Program Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education.
  • Position may require extra hours for planning and/or participating in family and program events.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate’s Degree, or coursework toward a degree is preferred, not required.
  • At least six months of experience working with school‑age children is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
Professional Commitment

The Before School Assistant Teacher is expected to work a minimum of 2 days/week, 6:45 AM – 8:15 AM daily. Preference for 5 days/week, 6:45 AM – 8:15 AM.

In addition to regularly scheduled hours the Assistant Teacher may be required to attend:

  • Monthly meetings with the Before School Site Coordinator, and/or Community Education Assistant Director and/or Director.
  • Annual mandatory program orientation and training days.
Annual Professional Development Requirement
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Annual Watertown Public Schools Required Trainings
  • Monthly Community Education Meetings
Physical Demands
  • Regular sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand‑held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
