Salary: As determined by Salary Schedule, Unit A

Watertown Public Schools seeks a special education teacher for the Learning Support Program. The classroom provides a small, highly structured environment for students identified through the IEP process.

• Assess students and monitor progress.
• Implement instructional programs and strategies based on student learning goals and IEPs.
• Collaborate with grade‑level teams to facilitate inclusion of students in the general education classroom.
• Work with team members within and outside WPS to ensure all student supports are in place.
• Apply curricular components such as Eureka 2 Math, Wilson Fundations, i-Ready Diagnostic and Program, Wit & Wisdom literacy program, and Responsive Classroom.

• Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment: Mastery of subject area, with well‑structured lessons and measurable outcomes; familiarity with Fundations, Wit & Wisdom, Eureka 2.
• Teaching All Students: Instructional practices that engage all students and create an equitable learning environment; respect for diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges.
• Family and Community Engagement: Build collaborative relationships with families.
• Professional Culture: Reflect on practice, seek feedback, and contribute to a collaborative learning community.

• Certification in moderate or severe special needs and elementary education preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience in an educational setting.
• Bachelor’s degree required;
  Master’s degree preferred.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Massachusetts Model System for Educators.
